Feeling alienated or weighed down by bureaucracy, grab a coffee at Kafka’s on Cambie. You will emerge feeling lighter, a tingling in your skin, a burden lifted. My metamorphosis was complete with a smooth cappuccino and a sweet pistachio croissant, recommended by the barrista, and good company.
I entered this cafe half expecting a nightmare to take hold of me, especially since the day was dull, wet and grey: the perfect dreary day for a low self to have a bizarre experience. There was an odd painting at the back of the cafe that did start to push me in a strange direction while I waited for my coffee mates. When they did arrive, they rescued me from any self-destructive tendency I may or may not have been focused on. And the big long table in the center allowed for comfortable conversation.
While you enjoy your coffee at Kafka’s be sure to:
“Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.” -Franz Kafka
